“Worship is at heart a public act that makes a bold assertion that there is a God and that we human beings can, and indeed are called, to acknowledge God, speak and listen to God, glorify God, and put our lives in tune with God and with the faith community that gathers to worship.” (John M. Buchanan)
Worship is the heart of our discipleship, for in it we meet God “in whom we live and move and have our being.” Worship not only acknowledges God, it also feeds our soul. A soul that does not worship shrivels. As the late Dag Hammarskjold in Markings once said: “God does not die on the day when we cease to believe in a personal deity, but we die on the day when our lives cease to be illumined by the steady radiance of a wonder, the Source of which is beyond all reason.”
