What might it look like for the church to start asking different questions about diversity and inclusion? Rather than concerning ourselves with boundary maintenance and who is "in" or who is "out" of the Christian faith, Cody J. Sanders in the book Queer Lessons for Churches on the Straight and Narrow encourages us, the church, to instead look to the margins and choose outside the bounds of the often harmful and normative institutions of the church. Join Hanna Bingham for a six-week class to read Sanders' book, explore Queer Theory and biblical interpretation, and discuss how the church might begin to move from inclusion to justice. We will be re-framing our questions--emulating the so often surprising example of Jesus--and learning from the faithful lives of our LGBTQ+ siblings. The class will begin on Tuesday, May 23rd at 7:00 p.m. at the Bingham house. Stop by the church office to pick up a book and sign up for the class.
