The story of Exodus begins with the leader of a nation dreading a people group. The leader's dreading led to horrific acts of terror and oppression. The story of Exodus is the story of God saving God's people from this oppression. The Exodus story becomes the theological foundation for the saving work of God, which as we see is needed because of the human desire to feel superior, no matter the cost. The story of Exodus begins with God thwarting the baptism of death. On this Sunday we celebrate our baptisms into life, a baptism so different from the baptism kicking off the Exodus story.
